Diet Coke

Ironically I formed a deep bond with all things Coke while on my mission.

It all started in the MTC. Shortly before we left for Colombia me and my fellow Elders visited the local mall for some last minute shopping. As we passed the food court I asked around until I found my caffeinated brew.

As I rejoined my group I incurred the wrath of my righteous brethren as they derided my weakness and accused me of blaspheme. I laughed it off and kept on drinking. And then I realized they were serious. So I enjoyed the rest of my drink in an awkward silence.

A few days later we arrived in Colombia at the mission home to spend the night before heading off to our assignments. It was dinner time and as we entered we were ushered to an enormous table full of unrecognizable, but wonderful smelling food. As we sat down at the table the Mission President's wife introduced herself and then placed an ice cold bottle of Coke in front of each plate.

I had a smirk on my face as I looked around the room and saw the horror on the faces around me. There was some serious soul searching going on. That was one of my most enjoyable bottles.

That sealed my fate. Since then I have enjoyed partaking of the forbidden nectar without guilt.

But about January of this year I realized I had a problem. My Diet Coke intake was a little extreme. One day I found myself trying to remember when the last time I had water..... and I couldn't.

So for the last 8 months I have been dry.

Until yesterday.

You would think after 8 months my addiction would have worn off.

Nope.

Heaven help me.

It's nice to know that you do have some self-control even if it only lasts for 8 months.

So is Diet Coke addiction like alcoholism? Once an addict always and addict? And what are the odds that your children carry the diet-coke addiction gene?
