This morning, Friday, Mindy got on a plane for Oregon. Newport, Oregon to be exact. After months of training, Mindy and two girlfriends are going to run a marathon along this coast line.
The irony is that this same weekend in San Diego is the Rock-and-Roll Marathon. A world famous marathon just minutes from our house. But it's on a Sunday. So off to Oregon they flew for the chance to run 26.2 miles on a Saturday.
The Newport marathon has exactly 750 runners, almost as many as the local population. In contrast the Rock and Roll marathon will have in excess of 20,000 runners and 40 live bands along the route.
But Newport has this haunted light house which they have to run around.
So the kids and I will try and sleep in tomorrow knowing they will start the race at 7am.
My favorite part of their trip is that they already have a pedicure appointment at the only spa in town after the race.
